Sicily is the Sunny Island in the Middle of the Mediterranean Sea
Sicily is not called the sunny island for anything: in the summer months of July and August, holidaymakers are spoiled by ten to eleven hours of sunshine a day thanks to the Mediterranean climate, hot temperatures of more than 40℃ make even the locals sweat.
Those who want to have it a little less hot can arrive as early as spring in April and May or in autumn in September and October. At this time the temperatures are a pleasant 20 to 30℃. In winter it also rains regularly on the sunny island, but in Sicily, you can still expect around 10℃ in January. Other advantages of travelling in the low season are that you don’t have to share the island’s most beautiful beaches with the masses of tourists and that the prices for flights and hotels are often much cheaper than in the high season. One of the most popular holiday resorts in Sicily is undoubtedly Taormina, located northeast of the Etna volcano – a place that offers beautiful, romantic, and unspoiled beaches, great hotels, and a lot of sightseeing. Situated on a rock about 200 metres above sea level, between Messina and Catania, Taormina offers a wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding nature. If you are not lying on the beach and enjoying the sun on your skin, you should definitely visit the ancient theatre, the small offshore and protected island Isola Bella or just stroll through the colourful alleys of the city.
